Information for Patients
How do I make an appointment?
Please email or phone to make an appointment.
Contact details for the Surgeons at Western Urology are located on the Contact Us page.
Appointments are prioritised according to clinical need.
For a new appointment to be made a referral needs to have been received so that the clinical urgency may be determined. Your referring Doctor may have already provided us with a copy of the referral.
All pages of the referral need to be sent through including any relevant test results attached.
A current referral is required so that you can claim a rebate from Medicare for your initial appointment and any follow up appointments. Please note that this is a Medicare requirement, not a requirement of Western Urology. For returning patients please check the validity of your referral prior to your appointment (GP referrals are usually valid for 12 months, Specialist referrals for 3 months).
How does payment work?
All consultation fees are payable on the day of consultation and outpatient consultation fees are not rebatable by private health insurers.
For procedures in hospital we will always endeavor to provide a written quotation where practicable prior to any surgical procedure of our surgeon’s fee. This will list anticipated item number(s) allowing you to check rebates with your private health insurer. This estimate will not include services provided by other doctors, including radiologists, anaesthetists and pathologists, nor other costs associated with your stay in the hospital/day surgery unit eg. accommodation, pharmacy and physiotherapy.
Any concerns about fees should be discussed prior to surgery with your surgeon.
If you do not wish to incur any out of pocket expenses your GP can refer you to a Public Hospital for free public treatment.
Further information about medical fees is available here.
Can I obtain a second opinion?
We appreciate that the decision to undertake surgery can be stressful and sometimes challenging. All surgeons at Western Urology respect your decision to seek a second opinion at any time and can provide a referral for you to do so.
How is the Anaesthetist arranged for my surgery?
Your Anaesthetist will arrange to contact you prior to your operation to discuss your anaesthetic and answer any questions that you may have.
How do you protect my personal information?
Western Urology adheres to the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
In simple terms, your medical details or results will not be released to anyone but you (unless you consent otherwise).
Your X-rays and clinical details may be presented in clinical audit, multi-disciplinary team or radiology meetings where this will assist with your proper surgical care.
How do I provide feedback about my care?
At Western Urology, we strive to provide the highest quality urological care.
We need to know if we have fallen short in any way. Any concerns or feedback that you have should be raised directly with your Surgeon.
