Dr Kara McDermott obtained her undergraduate medical degree from the University of Western Australia. She completed post graduate urological training in Perth, Western Australia and Auckland, New Zealand. Dr McDermott then undertook an overseas Fellowship at Guys Hospital, London in Robotic Uro-Oncology for the treatment of kidney and prostate cancers. Dr McDermott provides a full Urological service in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of urological conditions for both men and women. Her special interests include the diagnosis and treatment of urological malignancies, particularly robotic and minimally invasive surgery for kidney and prostate cancers.Dr McDermott is accredited privately at Hollywood Private Hospital and at St John of God Hospital Subiaco. She also works at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and Osborne Park Hospital where she is involved in surgical education and training and is currently the Urology supervisor of training at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

Kara’s focus is to ensure her patients receive the best possible outcomes throughout their treatment journey. Her friendly demeanour and appreciation for interspeciality cooperation allows her patients to feel well informed when it comes to making decisions relating to their care. Coming from Country WA herself Kara has a unique understanding of the challenges faced by country patients and enjoys being involved in their care. 

Kara's interests outside of work include spending time with her family and her baby girl as well as getting into or onto the ocean whenever she can.
